If you return the car undamaged, the money comes back. There's one catch, the hold lasts 5 to 30 days depending on the bank, and during that time you can't use that money. On top of that, after the rental they can charge you at any time for extra cleaning or damage that's often impossible to prove.

If you're under 25, big chains add €15-35 a day, sometimes more. The justification? Statistics, younger drivers have more accidents. But this becomes painful for families where a teenager or someone under 25 is the main driver.

You rent the car with a full tank. You have two options:
